Abstract

Cores, covering by winding. - Insulating- casings, particularly for former-wound armature coils, are pressed on to the revolving article, such as the coil, armature bar, or the like, during the winding-on process by hanging an endless belt around the insulated apparatus, and tensioning the belt with a weight or spring. In Fig. 1, b represents the cross-section of a long side of an armature coil, and, as it revolves, the insulating- strip i of micanite or the like is wound on. An endless band a, tensioned by a weight c, passes round the coil, and is revolved thereby so as to press uniformly on all parts. If hot rolls d are used, they are loosely mounted and the band a is passed round them so as to drive them. The rolls may be connected by the arch m, and may be counterbalanced by the lever- and-weight system o or by the weight of the drum k alone.
