Abstract

14,135. Marks, E. C. R., [Universal Speed Control Co.]. June 10. Revolving-cylinder pumps; stroke, varying. - In revolving - cylinder pumps having means for preserving synchronism between the two re- - volving parts, whatever be the inclination of the axes of the parts, the two parts are independently mounted, and are driven through epicyclic gear, distinct supplementary gear being employed for preserving synchronism. Fig. 2 is an horizontal section. A driving- shaft 5 projects into a spherical casing 7, and carries a head 23, on which is mounted piston - rods 22. On either side of the casing are bearings for hollow trunnions 9, 10, on which swings a member 8 carrying a stud 15, on which is rotatably mounted a barrel 16, in which is a series of axial cylinders 17, registering successively with suction and delivery ports 18, 19, connected through the hollow trunnions with inlet and outlet pipes 3, 4. Outside the casing, and attached to the member 8, is a lever for swinging the member about the trunnions and varying the stroke. For driving the cylinder member 16, a bevelwheel 26 on the head 23 meshes with a gear 27 on a sleeve 28 mounted on a stud 29 projecting from the trunnion 10. The sleeve 28 carries a gear 30 in mesh with planet-wheels 31 mounted on a gear 33 loose on the sleeve 28. The planet-wheels 31 also engage a normally stationary internal gear 32. The large gear 33 engages a gear 34, to which is made fast a bevel-wheel 36 meshing with a bevel-wheel 37 on the cylinder member. To preserve synchronism when the inclination of the cylinders is varied, a toothed segment 38 is mounted fast on the trunnion 10 and engages a segment 39 on a stud 40, projecting from the casing 7. To the segment 39 is made fast another segment 41 on the stud 40, which engages a segment 42 fast on the normally stationary internal gear 32. On swinging the member 8, the segments 38, 39, 41, 42 are rotated, the internal gear 32 is carried round, and with it the planet-wheels 31 and gear 33, to counteract the displacement which would otherwise occur on an alteration of inclination.
