Abstract

12,144. Penberthy, E. May 17. Fluid-actuated gears. - The distributing-valve 15 is reciprocated by fluid pressure supplied to the ends of the valve-chest by auxiliary ports 25, 26 connected to ports 18, 21, the exhaust from the valve-chest ends passing through passages 19, 22 controlled by the piston 2. The cylinder main passages 13, 14 are provided each with three branches a ... f, and the hollow valve is provided with inlet passages 17, g, h, i, j, and an exhaust cavity 16 in communication with the exhaust outlet 11. The ends of the valvechest are closed by caps containing screwed rubber plugs 7. A lubricant space 30 is arranged around the valve-chest, and is connected thereto and to the cylinder bv suitable ports. The passages 19, 22 communicate with the bottom half of the cylinder to enable the pressure fluid partly to take the weight of the piston. The port 23 at the end of the passage 22 is extended longitudinally to delay the reversal of the valve, and enable the piston to effect a powerful blow.
