Abstract

11,300. Bridgewater, W. May 7. Steering-mechanism.-Tricycles, of the kind constructed to incline automatically with the body of the rider in steering, are provided with a jointed framework 7, 8 connecting the heads or stems of the forks 6 of the two front steering-wheels so that they are retained parallel, a pair of springs 9 within casings 10 being arranged to keep the machine normally in upright position. As shown in Fig. 1, the bars 7, 8 connect the pillars or heads 1<b>, and the stems within these heads and the central head 1 are connected for steering purposes by arms 4, 4<a> and a cross-bar 5. The springs 9 bear upon a bar 12 fixed by a nut 13 to the central pillar. Ball bearings are provided at the joints of the members 7, 8. In a modification, the two outer stems are firmly connected to the framework and handle-bars. The rear part of the vehicle may be a bicycle frame from which the front wheel has been removed.
