Abstract

10,611. Stephens, R. H. April 29. Incandescent gas burners; vaporizing - apparatus; burners, mounting; oil supply. - Relates to standard lamps and stoves burning vaporized oil, and consists in (1) forming the vaporizer as a number of depending tubes placed in series and connected by chambers through which access to the tubes can be obtained for cleaning purposes; (2) mounting the complete burner in its support by means of the oil-inlet pipe at one side and a corresponding dummy arm at the other; (3) the use of starting-means comprising a spirit cup and funnel, the funnel being made to encircle the oil-inlet pipe; (4) means for forcing the liquid fuel from the reservoir to the vaporizer, comprising an air-pump placed centrally of the standard and operated by a cross-handle; and (5) the use of a combined valve and pressure gauge, the gauge being of known type and having a screw plug which is turned bodily to control the oil passage. The vaporizer consists of the depending tubes B, Fig. 1, which are V- or U-shaped and are placed as shown in Fig. 2. The last branch b<2> of the vaporizer leads to a central chamber C containing the nipple c<1>, the mouth of which is protected by gauze c<2>. Plugs b<1>, c are provided so that any part of the vaporizer can be reached for cleaning purposes. Air is led to the mixing-tube D through pipes F which open into the space between the casing G and chimney H. The mixing-tube D is constricted at e<1>, so as to cause more efficient mixing of the vapour and air. The spirit cup K is provided with a funnel k which directs the flame on to the oil - supply pipe A. A conical ring j fits the upper part of the casing G and carries a dome J. The oilsupply pipe A and a corresponding dummy pipe A<1> rest in slots in the chimney H, and are connected to the arms L, L<1> of the standard M, which is carried by the reservoir m. A band fixed on the upper end of the chimney may be used to secure the burner to the casing. The standard M is slotted vertically to receive the cross-handle n of the central pump N. The oil supply is controlled by the valve 0, which is a pressure gauge of known construction but adapted to turn as a valve.
