Abstract
9816. Mack, G. April 22. Letting-off warps.-Relates to let-off motions of the kind in which the warp let-off roller is driven continuously by worm gearing from the driving-shaft &c., means being provided to stop the warp let-off roller when desired. The friction let-off roller m, Fig. 1, is rotated by means of worm gears i, j and b, c, the worm b being fixed on the driving or other shaft a. The worm i is carried by a sleeve g, loosely mounted on a shaft d and supported by an adjustable bracket h, and has a wheel r, Fig. 3, carrying a spring- actuated pawl s capable of engaging a ratchetwheel q secured to the shaft d. The let-off motion is thrown out of gear by raising the pawl and securing it by means of a pin t<1>, which is placed in a hole u in the wheel r. In a modification, the sleeve is loosely mounted on the driving or other shaft and carries a spurwheel which engages directly with a spur-wheel on the let-off roller, similar ratchet mechanism being employed to secure the sleeve to the shaft.
