Wire ropes; strands of special section, with.-The rope is formed of wire strands B wound around a core formed of a hemp centre A and a number of specially - shaped wires C, the V - shaped spaces between the wires providing for the displacement of the hemp when pressure is applied to close the rope. One form of the specially-shaped wires is shown, one side of the wire being curved concentrically to the axis of the adjacent strand, and the opposite side being curved obversely to the centre of the rope; the other two sides subtend on angle of 60 degrees.
