Abstract

8869. Atkins, E., House, A. J., and McCarthy, C. A. April 12. [Cognate Application, 11,580/10.] Perambulators; folding vehicles. - Folding perambulators of the kind in which the wheels fold automatically under the body are provided with lugs C<3> on the handle member C which co-operate with lugs B3 on the wheel - carrying frame B to fold the wheels when the handle member is folded over the main frame, and by making one lug C<3> longer than the other, the frame B on one side is folded before that on the other side. Improved means are also provided for retaining the parts in the unfolded position. The V- shaped member D, which engages with jaws in brackets B<2> o n t h e wheel-carrying frames B to hold the wheels in the travelling position, is pivoted at D' to the main frame A, and to each of its rearwardly bent upper arms D<2> are pivoted a link G and an arm of a yoke H. The other end of each link G is pivoted at G<2> to a link F of which the lower end is pivoted to the main frame A and the upper end to the arm-carrying members E which are pivoted at E<1> to the handle member C. The yoke H is bent at H<1> to engage the rear cross-bar of the main frame to lock the parts in the unfolded position. The foot-rest J<2> and the seat back J are convertible from a sitting to a reclining position. The front end of the foot-rest is supported by a yoke L pivoted to the lower ends of the links F, and the sides of the yoke pass through the looped ends M' of a second yoke M pivoted at M<2> to the main frame A. To place the foot-rest in the position for reclining, the looped ends M<1> are raised until they engage bent parts L<2> of the yoke L. Rods N are fixed to the seat back J to form a guide for a yoke O of which the cranked ends are pivoted at O<1> to the rear ends of the arms K. To place the back J in the position for reclining, the yoke 0 is turned down until the back lies between the sides of the yoke.
