7946. Jfland, R. April 1. C h i m n e y s.- Factory chimneys, ships' funnels, &c. are provided with inclined wind - admission openings 1, 2, 3, 4 arranged spirally round them. In brick chimneys the openings may be formed in cast iron casings entirely within the thickness of the walls and suited to the dimensions of bricks and having support ribs 7 and base - plates 8. Flanges 5, 6 may be provided. For iron chimneys, such as ships' funnels, concentric jackets are secured round the chimney at suitable levels, and the spirallyarranged inclined wind-admission tubes extend between the jackets and funnel.
