Abstract

6775. Jones, O. C. March 17. Floats for aerial machines.-The rudders, tails, or elevators of aerial machines, more especially monoplanes, are attached to the frame or chassis by means of an extension composed of a light material or bag inflated with air or other gas, thereby reducing the weight of the machine, and providing a device which acts as a float to support the machine upon water, and also serves to absorb landing-shocks. In the form shown, the extension comprises an inflatable chamber g which is surrounded by a canvas or like cover e and a skeleton framing b, and extends between sockets c, d attached respectively to the chassis a and to the tail &c.
