Abstract

6246. Breeden & Co., J., and Breeden, F. March 12. Sliding valves.-Relates to sliding valves in which two valves proper are arranged in a ring- like carrier supported by the operating-spindle which has a wedge-shaped foot adapted to press the valves against their seats. The valves g are arranged in a carrier f supported by the wedge e<2> on the spindle e, and are provided with recesses for engagement by the wedge. Curved seats a<1> are formed on the bottom of the casing to receive the carrier f when in its lowest position and so bring the valves into alinement with the ports before the wedge e<2> commences to operate. Projections f<2>, Fig. 3, are provided on the carrier f to engage corresponding guides a<3>, a<4> on the casing, and are so arranged as to prevent the carrier from being inserted the wrong way. In operation, the handle d is rotated to lower the spindle e until the carrier is brought to rest on the seats a<1>. Further rotation of the handle causes the wedge e<2> to press the valves outwards against their seats. The valves may be of mushroom form, and may have renewable faces. According to the Provisional Specification, the stems of the valves may be hollow, and are then preferably carried by a, cross-head on the lower end of the spindle. The spindle is forked, the prongs being wedge-shaped and engaging in V-shaped openings in the valve stems.
