Abstract

4725. White, C. B., and Carr, J. Feb. 25. Fashioned fabrics; pleating, weaving to facilitate. - A gathering or pleating tape A for curtains, bed-hangings, &c. is woven with integral suspending-loops C', and the draw-cords B, B<1> may be woven in or otherwise combined with the tape. The cord &c. C for forming the loops may be carried by a shuttle which crosses the shed at intervals to lay the cord in a sinuous manner across the tape, to which it is bound by warps x. To form a loop C<1>, the shuttle is passed under the warps from the centre to one edge of the tape, round a "pearl" warp end arranged at a suitable distance from the edge of the tape, and back under the same warps as before. The'loop is bound by the warps x where it leaves and enters the tape. The loops may otherwise be formed by causing the cord to leave and re-enter the tape along the central or other longitudinal line; or the loops may pass obliquely or, according to the Provisional Specification, directly across the tape.
