Abstract

1840. Russell, F. W. Jan. 25. Linear-dimension gauges.-To facilitate quick adjustment of a micrometer gauge, the nut in which the micrometer screw works is sprung, and is provided with means for engaging and disengaging the screw at will. A sleeve F moving on the nut sleeve is normally thrown outwards by a spring-pressed guided trigger G so as to engage the nut and screw by engaging the conical end e<1> of the nut. A split ring J with guiding-tongues j is carried on the coned end of a fixed sleeve B, up which it rides when the trigger retracts the movable sleeve F. The ring then forms a guide and stop for the thimble D so as to prevent complete withdrawal of the micrometer screw.
