1754. Simpson, J. T. Jan. 24. Treads.-Metal sheets are slit and bent up as shown, and blocks of carborundum, lead, &c. are inserted in the pockets 9. The front edge 12 may be curved and bent up as shown to protect the e nosing of the stair &c. The plate and attached blocks may be sunk into the surface of concrete or cement work, forming a reinforcement thereto as well as a tread, or may be attached to wooden &c. surfaces by means of a holding-plate 10 and screws &c. Adjacent treads may be secured together by overlapping.
