Abstract

1335. Tarver, H. H. Jan. 18. Utilizing waste india-rubber.-Waste rubber and the like, preferably in the form of crumb, is subjected to the action of hot organic acid fumes such as phenol, preferably at a temperature of 247‹ F., in order to soften it and render it suitable for moulding and re-vulcanizing. The mass may be simultaneously subjected to the action of heat and pressure, for example, between heated rollers. Sulphur, colouring and loading materials, new rubber, &c. may be added.
