Abstract

1190. Gorrell, W. R., Brown, A. F., Reynolds, H. G., and Brown, T. J. Jan. 17. Chair plates; sleepers, composite, and securing rails thereto.-Rail-fastening members in the ends of a sleeper have spike-receiving grooves with sinuous side walls ; these grooves are partly filled by adjustable members having sinuous side edges. The concrete sleeper 1, Fig. 6, is reinforced by four tubes 2 spaced by surrounding braces 21 at the ends and in the sleeper, and by flanges 11 on the fastening-members. The rails rest on chair plates 4 and are secured by spikes 6 entering the grooves 15, Fig. 8, of the fastening-members 8, which are used in pairs. The grooves 15 have recesses 20 engaged by projections 19, Fig. 9, on the members 17, which are placed at one side or other of the grooves 15 to partly fill them. The spikes can then be displaced to compensate for wear on the rails.
