Regulating.-A governing - device for a jetwheel a comprises a screen or deflector f for intercepting the jet, and a nozzle valve e interacting in such a manner that, on a sudden increase of speed, the screen acts quickly in masking the buckets, followed by a slow closing of the valve, after which the screen is again raised. By this means, water shock is avoided. A governor-operated shaft g actuates the screen, and at the same time actuates a piston h situated in a cylinder k, which in itself forms a piston in a cylinder m. The cylinder k is supplied with fluid under pressure from a pipe k<1>. The cylinder m is supplied with a fixed quantity of viscous fluid. The cylinder k operates a rod p, and actuates the valve e through suitable link-work. The operation of the device is as follows:-On an increase of speed, the shaft g turns anti-clockwise, the screen f partly diverts the jet, and at the same time, the piston h slides in the cylinder k, which slides in the cylinder m, but more slowly, as the viscous fluid therein has to flow through a small pipe o to a reservoir n. For all speeds, when a normal condition is attained, the screen is raised above the jet by a small constant clearance.
