288. Erith, C. Jan. 5. Chambers; air, circulating.-In a closed chamber for drying timber &c., a radiator B is arranged in the lower portion of the chamber at the charging end, and air inlet and escape apertures a', a<5> are arranged at the discharge end, so that the entering air is warmed, and, after rising and drying the material and being itself cooled and moistened, is partly condensed by the cold air admitted, and escapes. The inlets and outlets may be controlled by dampers. A drain a<6> discharges condensed moisture. The material may be stacked on trucks running on rails. The process and apparatus are modified from those described in Specification 21,546/97.
