Aerial machines with aerostats; planes, arrangement and construction of.-In aeroplane machines of the kind in which the wings or planes are made collapsible, such planes are connected to a central frame, which is itself contractible longitudinally. As shown in Fig. 1, the main spar h is made of a number of telescoping sections so that the wing e may be collapsed as shown at e', and is connected to a main framing also consisting of a number of parts arranged to telescope at f, r, and a. The telescoping portions of the spar h may be secured in the extended position by screws n, Fig. 3, let into the cross-ribs g of the wings at b, c, d. The tail-plane may be made collapsible in a similar manner. As shown in Fig. 1<a>, the wings collapse like a fan, the ribs o being pivoted to a curved bar a' and held extended by a pivoted stretcher bar a<3>. Aerial machines adapted to travel on land.- The motor may be uncoupled from the propeller and used for driving land-wheels through a flexible shaft for starting.
