Abstract
30,566. Curtis, A. H., and Adams Manufacturing Co. Dec. 31. Controllers, actuating and retarding mechanism for; controllers with auxiliary switches.-Relates to electric motor controllers of the kind described in Specification 2067/03, in which a series of switches are successively closed by a reciprocating rod, and consists in making the operation automatic. The rod 6 is raised by a solenoid a, the circuit of which is closed by a switch c. In its raised position, the rod opens a switch d in the solenoid circuit, allowing the rod 6 to descend, aided if necessary by a spring (not shown), the movement being controlled by a dash-pot or brake k. This operation is automatically repeated The rod 6 first closes the double-pole main switch 401 by means of togglelevers n, o, q, cross-head r, and rod s. The rod s rises with the rod 6, and is held up during subsequent operations by a pin on the rod engaged by a slot in the armature t of a no-voltage release 25. The switches 40 are then successively closed, cutting out the resistances 81, 82, 83, 84, the last switch 40 opening a tappet switch w in the solenoid circuit. The switches 40 are held up by spring catches, which may be released separately by electro-magnets (not shown) controlled by a multiple-point switch. The catches are simultaneously tripped by projections on a rod (not shown) operated by the cross-head r when the main switch opens, The main switch is opened by closing the switch D to short-circuit the no-voltage release 25. In a modification, the rod 6 is reciprocated by an electric motor having a lost-motion connexion with the rod, such as a pin H on a worm-wheel F<1>, Fig. 6, engaging a semicircular slot in a crank-disk J. In this case, a rotary switch M is arranged to open the motor circuit L when the rod has been raised, allowing it to fall by gravity, whereupon the motor circuit is again closed. Or a suitable cam may be used to raise the rod and allow it to fall. In another modification, the lost-motion connexion and switch c are dispensed with, and the worm-wheel F<1> is driven continuously. In this case, the switch c is replaced by a switch c<1> in the motor circuit.
