Abstract

30,148. Unruh, M. von. Dec. 24. Mantles.-An incandescent body for use in incandescent gas lighting is formed by mixing organic fibres, impregnated with lighting-salts, with suitable organic or inorganic salts of thorium, cerium erbium, zirconium, and thallium, with or without an organic binding- substance, the mixture being dried and subjected to a sufficient heat to destroy the organic material. Magnesium salts may also be added to the mixture. Colloids may be used as binding - substances, with suitable additions such as sugar, glycerine, water, &c. The plastic material is then pressed into the form of an incandescent body, and formed with a supporting-ring of refractory material; or the material may be pressed into threads.
