Abstract

30,121. Adams, W. T., and Higgins, R. Jan. 14, [Convention date]. Ferrule, bush, and like extractors.-A device for extracting tubes from a boiler or similar structure comprises two semi-cylindrical clamping-members 3 with peripheral teeth 4 adapted to be clamped in the tube 2 by the tapered threaded end 6 of the rod 5, a threaded tube 23 adapted to screw through a block 14 rotatably mounted in an annular recess 10 in the casing 8, which is provided at the other end with a flaring end 9 to bear against the boiler plate 1, a lever 21 with spring-pressed pawl 18 for operating ratchet teeth 17 on the block 14, and a nut 24 threading on the end 7 of the rod 5. The recess 10 and its block are provided with ball-races 11<a> and 11 for the antifriction balls 12, 13, the latter being introduced through an aperture 15 normally closed by a plug 16. To start the tube 2, the members 3 are clamped inside it, the nut 24 is screwed up to abut against the screwed tube 23, and the lever 21 is operated to withdraw the latter together with the rod and boiler tube. After the boiler tube has been drawn out some distance, the device may be removed and the clamping-ring 27, Fig. 5, fixed to it by the screws 28 to obtain a hold for withdrawing it completely, or the ring 27 may be used in conjunction with the device as shown in Fig. 5.
