Abstract
14,134. Jones, G. J. June 18. Tube-extractors.-A device for withdrawing ship's condenser, locomotive boiler, or other tubes comprises two co-axial tapered split sleeves between, and by which the tube is gripped. A casing a provided with handles b has secured thereto a cap c surrounding a sleeve d provided with holes d<x> and having a screw-thread engagement e with the interior of the casing o. Within the sleeve d is an externally tapered split spring sleeve g held within the casing by a flange i and bush n, and intended to grip the exterior of the tube (not shown) to be withdrawn. A split internally-tapered spring sleeve j is held in place by a spring o bearing on a flange m. A tapered mandrel has an enlarged end q and a threaded portion r on which a handled boss t screws. The sleeve j is expanded to grip the inner surface of the tube by pulling on the handled boss t or screwing it along the mandrel r, thus drawing the enlarged end q into the sleeve. To grip the outer surface of the tube, the sleeve d is held against rotation by a tommy spanner (not shown) engaging the holes d<x>, and is drawn along the sleeve g by turning the handles b of the casing a. A double hook (not shown), engaging the handles b, may be used to connect the device to a source of power to draw the tube. The members j, q, t are removable for use as a separate unit.
