Abstract

29,540. Hutchinson, R. Dec. 17. Circular machines. - In the manufacture of seamless elastic goods on circular latch-needle rib machines, the required variation in the shape or size of the article is brought about by positively feeding a variable amount o f elastic thread per course, under control of the pattern mechanism. The elastic thread on its way to the work passes between a conical roll 8 and a follower 22, the roll 8 being carried round with the cam-cylinder and rotated by gearwheels 10, 11, 12, the position of the wheel 22 on the roll being determined by a traversing-screw 16. The wheel 22 is pivotally mounted in a frame 20, supported by a guide-rod 15 and the screw 16. The screw is operated through bevel-gear which may be rotated in either direction, to widen or narrow the goods, by means of star - wheels with opposed teeth engaged by strikers 25, 35 respectively. These strikers are directed into the path of the respective ratchets through the agency of a travelling pattern chain.
