Lids and covers; handles.-Means for causing the lids of tankards to close automatically consist of a looped blade spring g<3>, Fig. 6, attached to the handle at g<5> and to the arm of the lid at g<4>, the intermediate portion being guided, as shown, by passing through a slot in the handle and, if desired, through a ring n. In the device shown in Fig. 2, a blade spring g is enclosed in a covered recess round the hinge and presses on the arm of the lid and the bracket on the handle which supports the hinge. In the device shown in Fig. 4, the weight l causes the lid to be self-closing. In each of these devices, the motion of the lid is limited by a projection on the arm of the lid coming into contact with the handle.
