Abstract

28,387. Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co., and Foster, A. G. Dec. 6. Bogies, frame construction for. The strut members which form the pillars of the bogie frame, and through which pass the bolts connecting the upper and lower frame bars, are pressed from steel blanks, and are of such a shape that projecting parts fit against the sides of the frame bars while other parts provide guides for the vertically sliding bolster bracket. In one form, Figs. 1, 3, and 5, the pillar comprises a single steel blank, which is first pressed to a channel shape with sides 7, 9, and flat end projections 10, 11, Fig. 5. The ends of the sides 7, 9 are then bent as shown in Fig. 3 so that their extreme ends 14, 15 fit against the projections 10, 11 bent at right-angles from the position shown in Fig. 5, and also fit against the sides of the frame bars 1, 2 when the pillar is in position. The usual bolt 3 passes through holes in the parts 10, 11. The edges 18, 19 of the sides 7, 9 are bent outwards to form guides for the sliding bracket 6 of the bolster. The lower portions of the sides 7, 9 are bent outwards slightly at 23 and are shaped to form ears 24, 25 which are bolted to the sides 20, 21 of the usual channel-bar 22 under the bolster. In another form, Figs. 6 and 9, the pillar is made from two steel blanks. One blank is pressed to a channel shape with sides 7, 9 having outwardly-bent edges 18, 19 over which are closed the edges 28, 29, Figs. 6 and 9, of the second blank 27 which forms the guide for the bolster bracket. End projections on both blanks are bent at right-angles to bear against the frame bars 1, 2, and against the sides of the bolt 3, and projections 34, 36 on the blank 27 fit against the sides of the bars 1, 2.
