Presses; framing; ram-retracting devices.-In an hydraulic press, the cylinder cover, to which is attached the column for supporting the press, is made in two parts, as is also the piston, both constructions being introduced to facilitate repairs. The press may be used as a paper, cotton, tobacco, or wine press. The cylinder a has a cover in two parts h, g, the part h being screwed to the cylinder. The part g is bolted to the part h, and carries a column f, upon which is mounted the stationary part e of the press. The moving part d is preferably constructed with strengthening-plates m, and is connected by rods k with the piston c. The piston is made in two parts c<1>, c<2> connected by screws so that the joint of the leathers can be adjusted. In a modification, the press part d is stationary, the part e is attached to the rods k, and the cylinder is inverted and placed above the press.
