Abstract

27,874. Graham, J. Nov. 30. Steam - engine indicators. - Detachable actuating-means, of the kind described in Specification 18,305/00, for oscillating the record-drums of steam-engine and like indicators comprises an auxiliary crank - disk of adjustable throw connected through a clutch, which can be actuated when the engine is in motion, with a stud or disk fixed to the crankshaft of the engine, together with a connecting- rod and cross-head, to which the usual indicatorcord is fastened. The crank-disk H, together with a supporting-member L for the guide-rods M, N, is slipped over the stud X<1> X, which is screwed into the end of the crank-shaft of the engine. By means of a lever S and a pin- and-hole clutch K, Z, the disk H is caused to revolve with the engine crank-shaft. Lines of perforations in the disk H making angles of 90 degrees and 120 degrees with each other allow the throw of the crank-pin and crosshead O to be varied and the oscillation of the record-drum to be adjusted for engines having more than one crank. The guide-rods M, N are supported at the farther end by an adjustable member Y. In a modification, the bearing for the crank-disk H is formed by a stud carried by a vacuum rubber disk.
