, 27,583. Lapisse, E. Nov. 26. Coating-compositions; impregnating-compositions.-Leather is waterproofed by impregnating it with a solution of india-rubber containing a small proportion of tar &c. Before impregnation, fatty matters may be removed by steeping the leather in a solvent, such as boiling carbon tetrachloride. The impregnation may be effected by exhausting the air from the leather and then applying the heated solution. The tar may subsequently be removed by brushing the leather with benzine. The leather may be coated with rubber by dipping it several times in the solution.
