Bore-hole apparatus.- In a diamond drill, a pillar frame b is detachably mounted on a base frame b<1> and carries the drill body a, which is detachably and pivotally mounted on a pivot c. The drill head e is detachably a n d pivotally mounted on an horizontal pivot, preferably the driving-shaft f. The pivotal mountings facilitate withdrawal of the boring - rods and permit angular boring. The drill spindle m is driven from the shaft g through bevelgearing i, j, k, l. A winch r is detachably mounted on the base frame, and is used for withdrawing the rods. Loosely-mounted weighted levers t, connected to the winch-drum shaft r' by pawls and ratchet-wheels, may be used for balancing the weight of the drill rods, or may act through chains v passing round pulleys w, w<1> to apply a load to the rods when starting. The levers t may be pivoted on the base frame for applying a load; in horizontal boring, they are connected to the chains through a yoke. The parts of the machine are all of an easily portable weight.
