[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Mercury motor meters.-A disk immersed in mercury rotates in the field of one or more permanent magnets m, and of an independent electromagnet c placed on the opposite side of the disk, and excited by the main current or a fixed prooortion of it, so as to compensate for friction at high loads ; the compensating-magnet is arranged so that its field cannot influence the strength of the permanent magnet. The current enters at one side of the mercury chamber and passes through to the other side. More than one disk immersed in mercury may be used, or a separate disk not immersed in mercury may be acted upon by a permanent magnet for damping. In another arrangement, the compensating-magnet may act on a separate disk.
