Abstract
22,379. White, L. Oct. 1. Propelling.-A propeller for use on aeroplanes, air-ships, and other aerial apparatus comprises two endless chains C carrying a series of scoops F. The scoops F are formed of frames covered on the curved sides with fabric. Along the underside of the propeller is fixed a deep channel G within and along which the scoops pass. The propeller may be arranged as shown in Fig. 4 between the planes on each side of a biplane or of a monoplane, and the framework carrying the propeller may be fixed or pivoted so that the angle of incidence may be varied. Two propellers, one at each end, may be used on air-ships. In the Provisional Specification it is also stated that the distance between the pulleys carrying the chains may be made adjustable, and that a change-speed gear may be used with the propellers.
