Intestines, cleaning.-In a machine for removing fat &c. from intestines by means of revolving brushes 17, 18, the feed is effected by rollers 2, 3, 4 and 5, the velocity of which can be varied relative to that of the brushes. The roller 3 is keyed to a shaft 12 driven from a motor through variable-speed gear, and it drives the rollers 4, 5 through the toothed wheels 13, 15, 16. The roller 2 is mounted in arms 8 having a pivot connexion 10 with arms 9, carrying the roller 4, and themselves pivoted on a bar 11 of the machine frame. This arrangement allows the rollers 2, 4 to be raised for the introduction of the intestine, and to adjust themselves to its thickness. The brushes 17, 18 and the variable-gear shaft 29 are driven from a worm-shaft 23 connected to the main shaft by a universal joint, the brushes by gear-wheels 25, 26, and the gear-shaft by the worm and a wormwheel 28. The shaft 29 carries three or more wheels 30, 31, 32 in engagement with others 33, 34, 35, which are loosely mounted on the shaft 12 carrying the feeding-roller 3, and any one of which is keyed to the shaft by pins on a bar adapted to be slid in slots in the shaft 12.
