Abstract

Air, supplying.-A method of burning solid fuel consists in supplying air to the surface of a mass of fuel, and providing a further supply of air for consuming the smoke &c. in the combustion products, no air being passed through the fuel. Fig. 1 shows a furnace consisting of a hollow casing b through which air is forced to perforated hollow baffles c, d, e. The air from the underside of the baffle c descends upon the surface of the fuel a, and the combustion products pass through the baffle c to the space between the baffles d, e, where the combustion is completed by air issuing from the perforated sides of these baffles. Oxygen &c. may be similarly supplied. Dampers f are fitted to regulate the supply of air &c.
