Abstract

20,376. Dickason, F. B. Nov. 12, 1908, [Convention date]. Sweeping-machines. - Relates to street-cleaning machines of the kind in which a brush is used to loosen the dirt for pneumatic collection, and consists in providing means for separating the collected refuse, and for raising the suction head and brush when not in use. The suction head G is suspended by chains X from the frame A, and the dust is drawn through flexible conduits F to a fan casing E and is delivered tangentially into a separator D, Figs. 1 and 6, from which it passes down a shoot b into a receptacle, 'the air escaping at a. To raise the suction head, a lever L, Fig. 3, pivoted on the frame A, is operated from a pedal N, Fig. 1, the curved lower arm of the lever passing between rollers mounted on an arm I attached to the head. The brush S preferably comprises a body r, hinged to hangers R and carrying a single row of steel bristles coiled at the top to increase their elasticity, and is raised by a chain T operated from a pedal W, Fig. 1.
