Abstract
20,053. Warwick Machinery Co., [General Electric Co.]. Sept. 1. Agitating by jets; chambers with obstructions. -Steam regenerative accumulators are provided with movable agitators actuated by the incoming exhaust steam. In the form shown, a tubular shaft 3 is wholly immersed in the water contained in a drum 1, and is journaled at 2 on ball bearings 4. Exhaust steam discharges into the shaft at 5. Holes 7 are drilled through the shaft tangential to the inner surface. The steam escapes through these holes and the reaction of the jets causes a rapid rotation of the shaft. A helical rib 8 is provided on the shaft by means of which the water is forced up an inclined floor 9 and delivered to a shallow perforated pan 11, whence it trickles down through the steam space.
