Abstract

Crushers with gyratory heads; conical mills; mills and apparatus.-Relates to a self-tightening crusher head for gyratory and other crushers, applicable also to other machmes in which a head is liable to loosen and rotate on a shaft. The gyratory shaft A, Fig. 1, is formed above the tapered portion which carries the head B, with a screw-thread 10 carrying a nut 11 and a lock-nut 12. The nut 11 is reversely threaded on its inner and outer sides, and has a flange 2 extending over a nut 13 on the outer thread. The nut 13 is pinned to the head by a pin 4 entering radial grooves 3. Should the head tend to turn towards the left, the nut 13 screws upon the nut 11 and engages the flange 2, causing the nut 11 to screw downwards and tighten the head B. When the head tends to turn towards the right, the nut 13 is screwed down upon the outside of the nut 11, which is locked by the nut 12. In a modification, instead of a solid head, an inner core and an outer mantle are employed, the nut 13 being secured to, and acting on, the mantle. Fig. 3 shows a similar arrangement to Fig. 1, but with the tightening-means acting only in one direction. The shaft A is formed with threads 10, 11 of opposite bands, and a nut D, secured to, and rotating with, the head B, coacts with one of the threads, according to the direction in which the machine is operated, and in which the head tends to turn.
