Abstract

18,883. Rinker, H. S. Aug. 17. Pulp, recovering.-To prevent the loss of pulp, clay, size, and alum during the manufacture of paper, the same water is used repeatedly in a closed circuit. The pulp is prepared in the beater A, and flows through the pipe B to a small tank C having a screen D, and through a pipe E to the box F, which delivers it to the apron G. Any overflow from the tank C passes through the drain-pipe L to the drain N, and through the pipe 0 to the well P, from which it is raised to the tank T by the centrifugal pump Q. The water from the tank T passes through the pipe V to the tank W to be delivered to the tank C. The tank W is also provided with an overflow pipe Y which delivers the water to the drain N. Water may overflow from the tank T through a screen Z into a reservoir A'. If the water rises above the dam B', it is run to waste through a pipe C<1>. Steam-jets, in a series oi small pipes connected to the steam-pipe D', serve to remove any material which adheres to the screen Z. The apron G is cleaned by a spray of water from a pipe G', and the drain N by small streams of water from a pipe H'.
