Treating ores to facilitate concentration ; briquetting processes.-In a process for concentrating more or less earthy iron ores, particularly oolitic iron-stone and brown hµmatite, the crude ore is subjected to a combined grinding and washing process to separate the raw material into gangue, ore, and tailings, which tailings are separated and dried. The gangue and ore are then separated by a suitable wet process, or preferably, after pulverization if necessary, partly reduced to convert the iron present into magnetic oxide, and magnetically concentrated. This concentrate may be employed in the usual manner, but is preferably mixed with the partly-dried tailings and pressed into briquettes.
