Abstract

18,526. BÚrard, E. J. C. Aug. 12, 1908, [Convention date]. Roofing and building blocks.-A roof is formed of concrete slabs carried by principal trusses in which the rafters and tie beams consist of blocks tied together by embedded rods. Fig. 1 shows an elevation of part of the roof, and Fig. 2 the section at the centre. The tie beam a comprises blocks d with one or more passages e, Fig. 4, to receive rods f, and are notched at the ends to form keying spaces h for cement filling. The end blocks d<1> form skewbacks for the principal rafters b, which are formed similarly to the tie beams. A key or ridge block i, Fig. 5, is connected by the king post c to the rods f ; lateral inclines i<1> support the ridge pieces j, Fig. 2, and a rod f <3> is passed through the members i, j. The covering-slabs have draining- grooves n, Fig. 1, which may receive cement grouting ; the sloping joints between the slabs are protected by a covering strip.
