Abstract

17,872. Hilton, G. T., and Coppell, F. B. Aug. 3. [Addition to 20,412/08.] Pivot adjustments.-Relates to pivot adjustments for the hood fittings of motor and other vehicles of the type described in the parent Specification, and consists in forming the ratchet teeth upon the pivot spindle, arranging the pawls side by side upon a single spindle, and operating the pawls to disengage them from the ratchet teeth by means of an eccentric spindle. A number of pawls G engage with ratchet teeth formed on the pivot spindle A, and are mounted upon a spindle d. The pawls are stepped as shown in Fig. 2 to allow adjustment to a fraction of a tooth, as described in the above-mentioned Specification, and are disengaged from the ratchet teeth by means of an eccentric spindle F, which, on being rotated, depresses the tails g<1> of the pawls. The spindle F may be arranged to lift the noses g<2> of the pawls, or the pawls may be arranged upon the spindle F, and a cross-bar provided to prevent the tails g' from rising when the spindle is turned. The pawls are kept in engagement with the ratchet teeth by springs f which abut at one side against the casing C enclosing the device.
