Abstract

17,277. Bellet, F. July 24. Retort furnaces.-A furnace for treating materials at a high temperature with gas, and particularly for preparing ultramarine blue, comprises an annular retort 7 built of bricks which have longitudinal passages 12 with perforations 13 on the inner surfaces of the retort, and chambers 14 which form an insulating air apace. The retort is charged from the top by a truck provided at the bottom with a flexible sleeve. The furnace is heated by burners 3 supplied from gas and air pipes 1, 2, and the hot gases pass through an annular flue 4 and down a central flue 5. The materials in the retort are treated with air or other gas, which enters by flues 15 and the passages 12 on the inner surface of the retort, and escapes through passages 12 on the outer surface and an annular collecting-chamber 16.
