Sewing-machines; needles, driving; governing needle thread.-In a single-needle machine adapted for embroidering, detachable needlebars are provided to carry the thread reel and the thread tension devices, so that when it is desired to work successively in threads of different colours, the threads can be placed on separate needle-bars which can readily be exchanged one for the other. Figs. 3 and 4 show a needle-bar carrying a thread spool 7, a guiding-eye 8, a thread tension 9, and an auxiliary take-up 10. It is carried in a tube 2, to which it is secured by a screw 14 and which is reciprocated in the usual way in the head of the machine. When a needle-bar is placed in the carrying-tube, the thread between the auxiliary take-up 10 and the needle is hooked over the main take-up arm. A stand may be fitted on the arm of the machine to hold in readiness the needle-bars not in use. Work supports; driving.-A usual needle throat plate covering the feed-dogs is provided, and the machine is driven at a low speed through bevel-gearing.
