Capsules, applying. - R elates to a machine for forming on the flange of a capsule a, Figs. 2 and 5, a hollow circular bead, which is then driven by the machine under the bead of the bottle neck or into a groove in the bead. The capsule flange is rolled and the capsule applied by spring-controlled rollers 1, of the form shown in Fig. 5, which are so mounted in a rotatable capping head 2 that they advance diagonally on to the capsule flange. In one form of the machine, Fig. 6, the rollers are carried by spring-controlled pins 9 which ride over fixed cam surfaces 12, 12<1> when the capping- head is reciprocated by a hand-lever 7. In another form of the machine, Fig. 8, the rollers are carried by spring-controlled levers 21 which engage a cam 19 when the capping-head is reciprocated by the lever 7. The bottle is raised into capping position by a screw-rest 16, Fig. 6, or by a handle 23 and cam teeth 22, Fig. 8.
