Measuring-tapes. - A measure for use on bowling - greens consists of a casing with a peg a<1>, Fig. 1, an opening in the casing formed as two spring jaws f, g to grip the tape when pressed, and a guide-bar (not shown) for the tape. A peg i is fitted on the end of the tape. The tape may be rewound manually by means of a milled head on the spindle, or automatically by a spring contained in a box n, Fig. 6, on which the tape is wound. The box n has ratchet tongues p formed on its side to engage lugs o, o' on a stirrup, normally held from rotation by fixed supporting-cheeks k but adapted to be disengaged by pressure against its retaining-spring v, Fig. 7. Off-set tongues n<1> engage the removable half of the casing so as to give clearance to the stirrup piece.
