Mechanical telegraphs.-To avoid ambiguity of indication in multiple-signal signalling-receivers, a magnetic detent is provided to hold the indicator in the correct position when a signal has been transmitted. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the detent device consists of a corrugated magnetic drum c on the indicator shaft and a fixed magnet e placed opposite the drum. When a signal has been transmitted, the magnet assists the drum to take up and retain a position in which a corrugation is opposite the magnet. The windings of the instrument may be arranged between the corrugations. Instead of arranging the corrugated drum or similar device on the indicator shaft, it may be fixed, and the magnet may @@ keyed on the shaft.
