Abstract

Worm conveyers. -A conveyer for carrying light articles, s u c h as hair-pins between the manufacturing processes of blueing, japanning, and stoving, comprises a rotary wire helix on which the articles are suspended by hooks or the like. The helix a, Fig. 2, is supported at intervals and is driven by a belt stiffened with lateral strips l to prevent it from sagging between the loops of the helix. The articles are attached to hooks, spring clips, or trays suspended from antifriction rollers d'. The bearings are provided with gaps to allow the articles to pass through. The conveyer may be turned through an angle by passing it between the flanges of wheels g<1>, Fig. 4, or round the curved peripheries of wheels g. A number of helices may be used in combination, for example a small helix and the suspension devices may be arranged inside a larger one.
