Abstract

13,463. Fairweather, W., [Emerson Typewriter Co.]. June 8. Sheet-guiding arrangements.-Relates to laterally adjustable paper-guides of the kind that are mounted on a rod at the front of and above the platen and are provided with spring devices co-operating with the rod to hold the guides against the platen. A flat-sided rod 5 supported by arms 7 on the end plates of the carriage carries paper-guides, each comprising a flat plate 10 with ears 11 bored to receive the rod 5, a finger 12, and a handle part 16, 17. A tongue 15 at each side of the finger 12 is curved in register with the curvature of the finger 12, this curvature being of greater radius than that of the platen, so that the paper is clamped at a single point at or near the printing line. A spring 18 secured to the plate 10 presses against the flat surface on the rod 5 and holds the finger 12 against the paper. The guides, with the exception of the springs, may be stamped out of a single piece of metal, and are effective in dealing with envelopes or thick paper.
