Abstract

12,493. Duke, H. H. May 27. Straight-bar machines.-Relates to the production of ornamental plating such as vertical or zigzag stripe designs on the Cotton type of hosiery machine. The striping-thread carriers q are carried by arms o mounted on a shaft p, which is suspended from a rocking shaft m. The carriers q are traversed for the purpose of the design by means of a slide b carrying a bridge-piece d, and a second slide e which has a stop l controlling the shaft ni. The slide b is reciprocated by means of a screw c, and gearwheels r, r<1>, r<2>, r<3> which are rotated in the desired direction by means of a double ratchetwheel and pawl, continuously operated, one or other pawl being rendered inoperative by the selective action of a pattern chain. For the purpose of wrapping the ornamental plating threads round the respective needles, an extra traverse is imparted by means of a cam-wheel f acting on the slide e.
