Abstract

Reinforced-concrete pipes.-Relates to concrete pipes having reinforcements of the helically-coiled or tubular type, and comprises corrugated longitudinal members, and devices for positioning the reinforcement in the mould. A bundle of the longitudinal members may be introduced simultaneously by enclosing them in a tube c, Fig. 1, which is then threaded between the coils and withdrawn, and the members b finally spaced at suitable intervals. Straight flexible members b may be used, which become corrugated under the action of the coils, and the ends may be bent or returned as shown at b<1>, Fig. 2. The helix is finished off at rightangles to the axis by means of a ring integral with, or separate from, the coil and secured by the looped ends of the bars b; or flat or sectional iron rings may be provided with holes to receive the bars b and act as connecting- flanges. The bars b may be inclined to the axis in one or two directions, and the corrugations may be of regular or variable pitch and height with or without intervening straight portions, and may be in the same or different planes. Fig. 6 shows a modified bar b having corrugations on both sides to serve as positioning members in the mould. Fig. 8 shows a side view of Fig. 6, with the bends in different planes to prevent slipping. Short but similar positioning-members may be secured to the main armature at any point, as shown in Figs. 9, 10, and 11; the bends may lie in planes parallel or perpendicular to the axis. Straight bars f, Fig. 15, may be also added, and be secured by the bends e<4>, or by a special member e, Fig. 19. Some of the bends in the bars b may be long enough to project beyond the concrete.
